Emma Stone plays Allison Ng, a half-Chinese and half-Hawaiian character, in the 2015 film Aloha. Although the film uses limited yellow face, the film tries to, and fails, to make the audience believe that Emma Stone is of Asian descent.

This film has become quite controversal because there were many other actresses that fit the criteria of being Hawaiian or Chinese. Stone's lack of Asian descent creates an issue for viewers who want to connect the culture that she she is trying to represent.

 

The roles for Asian actors are already very limited. When Asian roles are given to White Actors, there will be a continous cycle of Asian roles being played by White Actors because it reinforces the whitewashing in Hollywood.
