Katharine Hepburn plays Jade Tan inthe 1944 film Dragon Seed.  The movie revolves around Jade, a Chinese women, who encounters Imperalist Japanese soldiers invading her village during World War II. She leads her village to retaliate against these attacks.

The use of eye prosthetics and eyeliner was very common in films featuring Asian characters. The Asian characters portrayed in the movie are not a representation of real Asian men or women, but grinning caricatures to further promote negative stereotypes towards minority actors.
