MARLON
BRANDO
Marlon Brando plays Sakini, a countryfied Confuciuasian Japanese man in the 1956 movie, The Teahouse of the August Moon. The movie is a comedy that puts satire on America's drive for change after World War II.

To achieve the effect of looking "Asian," Brando uses tape on his eyes to create monolids and acted in certain manners for a "slanty eyed appearance." Marlon Brando is an iconic actor and his participation in looking "Asian," and acting as one, has contributed to the normalization of yellowfacing back in old films.
